five sense exercise to ease anxiety | mindfulness

Santosh Kumar

What is the definition of mindfulness?
Simply said, it is our ability to pay attention to the present moment in a curious and nonjudgmental manner.

Higher empathy and compassion, enhanced immunological function, increased happiness and optimism, improved sleep, more focus and concentration, and lower anxiety and stress are all benefits of mindfulness practise.

Mindfulness can be practised in a variety of ways, including meditation and paying attention to our regular actions.

The Exercise of the Five Senses

The Five Senses Exercise is an example of a mindfulness exercise. The idea is to use your five senses to focus on your environment rather than your thoughts in order to relax your mind.

Using any or all of your five senses (sound, sight, touch, taste, and smell) to observe what you are experiencing right now is a basic mindfulness activity.

Take a few calm breaths and consider the following questions:

What are three things I can hear? (for example, clock on the wall, car going by, music in the next room, my breath)

What are three things I can see? (for example, this table, that sign, that person walking by)

What are three things I can feel? (for example, the chair under me, the floor under my feet, my phone in my pocket)

What are three things that I can smell? (for example, flowers in the room, the laundry detergent, the soap on my hands)

What are three things I can taste? (for example, my tea, a cracker, a grape)

Slowly, one sense at a time, consider these replies to yourself. It’s impossible to do this exercise without being aware of the present moment.

Outcome : Five sense is an effective exercise to ease anxiety. it is also helpful to calm over thinking.
